The Xbox Live Arcade version of Doom II includes all 32 levels of iD’s original “Hell on Earth” episode and a new nine-level episode, “No Rest For the Living,” made particularly for this transfer by Nerve Software. The sequel has no new weapons or opponents other than those introduced in the original Doom.
Doom II runs at a resolution 1080p, with the original art resized. The aspect ratio is fixed at 4:3 and cannot be stretched or modified to 16:9. The audio has been remixed to 5.1 surround, but the original effects and MIDI music have been retained.
In co-op mode, up to four players can play through the episodes or any of the levels in a typical Deathmatch game. Multiplayer is supported online via Xbox Live or locally via split-screen, like with the XBLA port of the first Doom. There are 12 achievements to unlock, including a “Doom II” avatar T-shirt for completing one level and a whole-body Doom marine avatar costume for finishing the new episode.
