Double Excellent Happy Action Theater is a Kinect-only party game with eighteen modes. Many of them are unfinished and cannot be finished. They instead attempt to entertain one or more players while encouraging innovation. At any given moment, up to six players can be tracked.
Some modes show the players’ shadows, while most employ augmented reality. The camera catches the player’s environment and superimposes additional elements and the player himself. The player can then move through a lava pit and interact with the flow, “wipe out” other players to make them disappear for a short time, stand still as a statue to attract pigeons, move underwater, throw snowballs at the screen, or play a version of Space Invaders in which the defending craft is rendered with a snapshot of the player’s head. In another mode, a series of five photos are shot and cloned. The technique can create visuals in which players kick themselves or shake hands.
All activities are immediately available and can be selected from the main menu. There is also a party mode, which creates a combination of diverse activities.
