As a fighting game, Dragon Ball Z: Burst Limit allows players to experience the essential conflicts from the first three sagas of the anime (the Saiyan, Frieza, and Cell sagas) from the perspective of good and evil characters. These battles take place during the Saiyan, Frieza, and Cell sagas. At the beginning of the game, there are only three characters that the player can control. However, completing Z-Chronicles mode can unlock a total of 21 characters. “Drama pieces” can be triggered during gameplay, playing a cutscene, and affecting the combat in some way (such as delivering a health boost to one of the players, stopping an attack, etc.). These “drama pieces” are new to the series and have been described as “interactive cutscenes.”
In addition to the Z-Chronicles mode and the standard Versus mode, both of which support online play, there is also a Training mode that teaches novice players the fundamentals of the game, as well as three Trial modes: The Survival mode requires you to win 100 matches in a row, the Time Attack option requires you to win 10 games within a set amount of time, and the Battle Point mode awards points based on the moves you use to win matches against your opponents.
