The 2013 edition of the soccer series follows the trend of adding new game modes and improving current ones. All of the leagues from FIFA Soccer 2012 remain, as do the Saudi Professional League and the USA MLS All-Stars, which are new for this version. The Czech Republic, India, Paraguay, and Venezuela have returned to the national teams, while Croatia has been dropped. With the advent of qualifying and international tournaments, an international squad and a club can be controlled in Career mode. The transfer mechanism has been modified to include counter-offers and moves that combine players and money as a single offer. The Match Day feature updates and rebalances team and individual statistics every week, and a Game of the Week feature allows you to repeat a loaded game from the previous weekend. Seasonal play is available in the Pro Clubs mode, and EA Sports Football Club presents new circumstances for the player. By accumulating experience, you can unlock rewards such as boots, team kits, and celebration sequences. Ultimate Team is the primary game mode.

First, Touch Control is introduced in this edition to make fluid attacking techniques less predictable. It considers the players’ statistics and the scenario (based on movement, location, and pressure) to assess how successfully control and actions are executed. There are more dribbling choices (based on the accessible dribbling technology introduced in FIFA Street), and the mechanism for computer-controlled players supplying offensive conversion support has been upgraded. The Skill Games mode is new to the series. It comprises 32 minigames based on sports such as shooting, passing, and dribbling. They are minutes long and have three difficulty levels based on medals. For example, they can be played alone or with another player hopping in to take control of the goalie.

The Kinect (360) and Move (PS3) peripherals are now supported for the first time in the series. While the conventional controller is still needed, Kinect provides additional options depending on voice. Voice instructions can change tactics, and encouraging messages can be programmed. The “substitute” voice command brings up a menu in the corner from which the players to exchange can be selected. Motion control is added for Move. The wand guides players around the pitch and can be used to detect passing directions by pointing.
