Final Fight: Double Impact is a compilation of Final Fight and Magic Sword arcade versions. Both games have been optimized for HD, including local or internet drop-in drop-out co-op for two players.
In Final Fight, players must save Mayor Haggar’s daughter from a street gang holding her hostage for ransom. To find Jessica, the player(s) must defeat waves of thugs and end-of-level bosses such as Guy (a martial artist), Cody (a street brawler), or Haggar (a professional wrestler). Players can find and collect temporary weapons, such as knives and steel pipes, as well as food items to replenish their health. There are seven levels, with minigames such as wrecking a parked automobile or smashing glass panes in a factory interspersed between them.
In Magic Sword, players ascend a monster-infested tower, each level serving as a floor. The player defeats their enemies using swords and magic, which can be upgraded with items obtained in treasure boxes or after beating bosses. During their ascent, players can utilize keys to free AI-controlled inmates who will fight alongside them for a short time.
Both games include optional filters that allow you to improve the images for HD, mimic the curve and phosphor glow of an arcade screen, or play with the original unfiltered graphics. Both games can be played inside a virtual copy of their original cabinets or as free-floating screens with stretch and zoom controls. Players can also choose between original and newly remixed music tracks.
Both games use gameplay from their original ROMs, with no editing (Final Fight keeps Roxy’s underboobs, Sodom and Damnd’s actual names, and the victim of the demolished car’s “Oh my God!” cry). Players can also complete in-game challenges (such as beating a level in a certain amount of time or with a certain number of continues) to gain access to retro materials from a “Vault” for each game, such as concept drawings, fan art, and the entire “Final Fight” episode of the Street Fighter 1997 animation.
