It all started in the summer of 2008 when worldwide oil demand outstripped oil firms’ supply capability. The year is now 2024. Oil is as good as non-existent, and alternative energy sources fall short of meeting demand. To make matters worse, Russia and China have created the Red Star Alliance to compete with the United States and Europe, now known as the Western Coalition, over the world’s last oil reserves. You are a member of the Stray Dogs squad, and it is your mission as a member of the Western Coalition to fight the Red Star Alliance and safeguard the oil.
The campaign is told through the eyes of Wayne Andrews (who you do not play). He’s a press member who was ordered to accompany the Stray Dogs to elevate them to the status of heroes and give the folks back home something to look forward to. However, the battle is unpredictable…
The game’s purpose is always to seize particular spots on the map to advance the frontline. However, because you must control at least two of those control sites to offer, you must also ensure that elements of your team guard the previously converted point while engaging and taking over the others.
To battle your adversaries, you have access to relatively futuristic technology like exploding drones or a small radio-controlled tank and assault rifles, rocket launchers, and other weapons that pierce enemy armor. There are also several types of automobiles available to you. Everything you need to conquer the battlefield, from jeeps to tanks to helicopters, is available.
In single-player, you only control one guy who can use whatever he discovers on the battlefield. Different weapon load-outs and roles are available in multiplayer. A Dronetech, for example, takes advantage of the game’s various radio-controlled vehicles. You can gain experience by killing foes or taking control points during a round. Once you’ve gathered enough, you acquire a level and gain access to better equipment in your role, but once the game is over, they are reset, and you start as a lowly Level 1 (of 3) in your position on the following map.
