Green Day: Rock Band is the second major release in the Rock Band series, which is centered on a particular band, in this instance, the California-based American punk rock band Green Day.
The gameplay is the same as in previous games in the series: players use their instrument controllers to play guitar, bass, and drum parts, as well as sing vocal parts, matching notes on the screen to the music. Vocal harmonies are also included, as seen in The Beatles: Rock Band, allowing three players to sing specific portions together. Quick Play and Career modes are available in the game. Short Play will enable you to play all available songs immediately, while Career mode progresses through numerous setlists, unlocking new songs. Completing obstacles in Career mode unlocks band photos and videos. The game contains three different settings and outfits the band members differently depending on the music. A Score Duel mode pits you against other players playing the same instrument part in the same song.
The game includes 44 songs (equaling 47 pieces because some are arranged in medleys), including the entire catalog of the band’s best-selling albums Dookie, American Idiot, and 21st Century Breakdown (minus six tracks released as DLC for previous Rock Band games), as well as selected tracks from Insomniac, Nimrod, and Wanted. The tunes can be exported for other Rock Band games for a price on the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions. The tracks from the 21st Century Breakdown DLC are also playable.
