The GRID World career mode is at the center of the game. Divided into three regions: the United States, Europe, and Japan, the player must earn money and prestige points to advance to a higher license level, which grants him access to more and more difficult racing events. These races are classified as conventional, drift events, destruction derbies, and even the legendary 24-hour race in Le Mans.

Of course, not every automobile is appropriate for every event. Therefore, there are various series to choose from. So, while the player drives a tuned car in Japan for Drift or Racing events, muscle cars await him in the United States for Destruction Derbies or Formula 3000 racers in Europe. Each automobile handles significantly differently as well. Of course, the participant must first purchase a suitable car before entering a contest. He can then decide if he wants to buy a brand new automobile or go to eBay Motors and look for a reliable used car, which will cost less but may have been in some accidents and may not deliver the best potential performance.

The player can perform so-called Driver Offers to earn money to buy a car for an event. These are invitations from other racing teams to participate in and complete an event. However, bonus objectives such as “Finish before Team Top Secret” award the player extra cash if completed successfully.

Aside from money, the player gains prestige points. These are required in the corresponding country to unlock the next higher license category. Of course, tournaments award far more issues than fulfilling Driver Offers, but the player can earn a few more points by tweaking the realism settings before the race. The greater the realism, the greater the end gained after completing the event. These options include the difficulty level, traction assistant, and the number of flashbacks available to the player during a race. These flashbacks are akin to the Prince of Persia-Series’ Sands of Time. If the player, for example, wanders out into the gravel pit, he can use the instant replay to rewind time a little and then reenter the race at that point to try to prevent the crash.
