The world-building component of the puzzle game KrissX requires players to decode rows and columns of crisscrossed letter tiles to piece together complete sentences. In the primary quest mode of the game, tutorials emerge whenever a new type of gameplay is added. When the cursor is moved over one of the words, a brief clue in the form of a thought balloon appears. This hint typically provides a synonym for the word in question. This characteristic can be turned off if the player desires a more significant challenge.
After each word is solved, a variety of bonus tokens fall from the tiles, unlocking a number of special powers that contribute to the puzzle’s solution. Score tokens provide additional points, tip tokens recharge the hint button located in the bottom-right corner of the screen, freeze tokens lock proper letters in place, time tokens provide extra seconds when playing in Time Attack Mode, and cascade tokens automatically switch letters on all of the unfinished words. Some of the terms are burning, and if the player can put them back together while they are on fire, the game will change the letters in all the lines and columns connected to that word.
While playing through the quest mode, you can access three brand-new features. When playing in the Time Attack mode, the objective is to decode the words as quickly as possible before reaching the time limit. When time tokens are collected, they extend the total amount of time by 10 seconds. Time tokens drop from completed words. The unique puzzles are crosswords containing terms corresponding to a specific theme, such as “countries of the world” and other knowledge items. The player can have their unique levels with the puzzle maker’s help, which is emailed to other players or placed on the website.
