Isometric in perspective, Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light is a platformer that stars the game’s namesake protagonist. Lara discovers a magical relic while investigating a Mayan tomb, and very immediately, she is encircled by hostile forces. In the following sequence of events, the ancient Mayan monster known as Xolotl is accidentally let out. Now, Lara must avoid getting caught in the traps the demon has set up. She is assisted by Totec, the guardian of light, who had previously been responsible for Xolotl’s imprisonment many years ago.
The game offers physics-based environment puzzles and a combination of action and platforming gameplay. Offline co-op makes it possible for players to work together. For the most part, for Lara to reach higher areas, she must make use of either her grappling hook, Totec’s spear, or, in the event of co-op, the assistance of Totec’s shield. In addition, there is a little role-playing game element, which takes the form of trinkets and challenge chambers that, when completed, add a variety of relics and upgrades to Lara’s armory.
