The animated television series Star Wars: The Clone Wars inspired LEGO Star Wars III: The Clone Wars. The game, as usual, retells original scenes while replacing everything and everyone with LEGO bricks. It also incorporates humor, often slapstick, and frequently focuses on the fact that LEGO buildings are flimsy.
This game, like its predecessors, is based on three co-op campaigns. The players select one of several Star Wars characters to go through the levels. Various action-based confrontations, platforming, and puzzles need the two characters to work together. The game can be played alone until the AI takes control of the second character.
Aside from on-foot missions, there are vehicle segments in which players control walkers or tanks. However, the game offers a new mission type with real-time strategy features. In those missions, players are placed on a map and must conquer all opponent bases – unfortunately, many of them are fortified. Players must first build unique weapons or units to destroy those defenses. Of course, production buildings are required to accomplish this; they can be erected on previously acquired bases. This mission type serves as the foundation for the arcade multiplayer mode.
