This XBLA game adds 3D graphics and 220 additional levels to the classic gameplay of the 1983 game Lode Runner. Like the original, the player controls a guy who must collect all of the gold on the screen while avoiding the terrible foes that hunt him (the Monks or the Bungelings from the Apple II version back in the 1980s). Instead of digging holes, he uses a pistol to destroy chunks of the landscape.
This version includes additional gameplay components, a level editor (for uploading and editing downloaded levels on Xbox Live), and online play. A timeline of the Lode Runner series is also included in the game. The classic single-player game is called Journey, but there is also Hang On, which has eight levels packed with gold and an increasing number of foes. The goal is to accumulate as much gold as possible, and the outcome is classified as Bronze, Silver, Gold, or Diamond.
