Humanity departed Earth 80 years ago to establish a new home on E.D.N. III. As the colony expanded, humanity came into contact with The Akrids, a bug-like alien race that waged war on humans for invading their country. Because the humans lacked sufficient defenses, they were forced to flee the planet. During the retreat, an Akrid named “Green Eye” killed a young guy named Adam. Scientists quickly found that the Akrids were a source of valuable thermal energy stored within their bodies. This critical resource provided humanity with an economic motivation to fight back. The Vital Suit, a heavy weapon mech-like vehicle, was constructed on Earth. When Adam returns to E.D.N. III, he is one of several Vital Suit pilots out to avenge his father’s death.

The third-person shooter, Lost Planet: Extreme Condition. The player, Adam, goes to war against the Akrid troops. Adam’s primary goal is to destroy the Akrid colonies and eventually defeat the “Green Eye,” but he has many objectives to achieve along the road. Adam is capable of carrying two guns and one type of grenade at the same time. Adam can also find other Vital Suit upgrades to give himself additional skills. Because the planet is icy, thermal energy is required to survive and recover healthy energy. To obtain it, Adam must either activate Data Posts or destroy items containing it, such as exploding barrels or enemy Akrids. The thermal energy stored gradually depletes over time and must be replenished regularly.

Lost Planet: Extreme Condition also has a multiplayer option in which players can compete online against up to 16 other players in four distinct game styles. Aside from the standard Deathmatch and Team-deathmatch modes, there is “Station Control,” in which players attempt to locate and activate data posts on the map, and “Fugitive,” in which one player flees from the rest, murdering opponents and waiting for the timer to run out.
