Lost Planet: Colony is a re-release of another game called Lost Planet: Extreme Condition. In addition to the gameplay of the first title, it additionally features the following:
There are three brand-new single-player game modes.
10 new weapons
5 additional playable characters
20 multiplayer maps (most of them were already released as DLC on Xbox Marketplace)
7 new multiplayer modes
One of the new game modes for single-player is called a boss tournament, and its objective is for the player to compete in a setting similar to a tournament while taking on all of the bosses from the standard single-player campaign. After each victorious battle, players move up one rung on a ladder to the next available position. The high-score hunt is the second single-player option in the game. After selecting a level from the standard campaign, the player accumulates points for each successful kill he achieves. The more foes eliminated in a condensed amount of time, the higher the combo will get and the more points the player will accumulate.
The most peculiar new multiplayer option is called Akrid-hunt, and it is the first time that players can assume control of an Akrid. In this mode, two teams—the hunters and the Akrid—compete against each other in a fight to the finish. The objective for the Akrid is to remain alive until the end of the round.
