The trading card game Magic: The Gathering has been adapted into a video game called Duels of the Planeswalkers. This version of the game is a simplified version of the original. The player, just like in the first version of the card game, uses magic spells to call out various creatures, bestow enchantments upon them, and bring about different other effects before attacking the other players to eliminate them. The game is designed to be intuitive and user-friendly for beginning Magic: The Gathering players without underwhelming card game veterans. This game has no deck construction; instead, players unlock cards and use pre-made decks. Some of the game elements, such as tapping lands, are handled on their own automatically.
The game includes two different campaigns: one for solo play and one for co-op play between two players. In online space, in addition to the traditional two-player duels, the game includes both a two-player cooperative mode and a free-for-all mode that allows for as many as four players. In addition, ranked play modes and leaderboards are available for online play. The player must also solve various puzzles to progress through the game.
