Darkness has overrun the previously prosperous and great country of Q’markaj. It has impacted all five of the realm’s powerful mortals, including the King. Residents of the kingdom have attempted to discover why this has occurred, only to vanish. Amidst all this, a teenage thief named Tepeu sets out to rid the realm of all dark forces. His first objective is to liberate the fabled giant Majin. Tepeu’s ability to communicate with animals in the kingdom will give him essential insights and assistance on their adventure.
Majin and The Forsaken Kingdom is a puzzle adventure game with action components at its core. The vast kingdom of Q’markaj has opponents of varying sizes, and not all can be defeated with brute force. The user has direct control over Tepeu and can use instructions to lead the Majin to interact with the environment or charge head-first in battles. As the player continues through the game, additional powers become available through fruit, which the player must locate and present to the Majin. Only then will he be able to use these abilities? There are four of them in total, including wind power and lightning. Aside from the additional skillset to utilize in battle, these abilities frequently present strategies to overcome new or current challenges.
The ultimate goal is to reach the King hiding in the castle, but four seals guard the door. Each boss represents one of these seals, and beating them will shatter their corresponding seals, allowing more avenues to open. Later in the game, Tepeu and Majin will discover transportation rooms enabling them to cover a large amount of ground quickly and travel more easily between some areas of the kingdom.
Although the player can often select how to approach particular circumstances, signposts and animals can sometimes provide further advice or indications on what to expect or think about next.
