2K8 is a continuation of the baseball franchise that 2K started, and it includes several additional features in addition to the required roster revisions. It consists of a Total Pitch Control that uses the analog sticks for the PS2, PS3, and Xbox 360 consoles, as well as the Swing Stick 2.0, which allows for a wide variety of hit types to be produced. The PSP and the Wii have similar functionality, but the Wii Remote and the Nunchuk control the Wii while the D-Pad is used for the PSP.

Aside from the Wii, every game can use 2K cards, which can be collected and exchanged among online users. They may be played in multiplayer mode utilizing their respective online services. The only exception to this is the Wii.
