This new entry in the long-running series with the same name as the original game uses the Medal of Honor moniker again. The series moves away from the events of the Second World War for the very first time. This time around, the combat that is being portrayed is the war in Afghanistan that is being fought by NATO forces against the Taliban army of that country, a war that was still going on when the game was launched.

The gameplay is similar to other realistic first-person shooters, such as those in the Call of Duty or Medal of Honor series. In these games, the player assumes the role of a different soldier within a small squad and must follow the specific orders given by the squad leader. In the present game, we follow the efforts of Colonel Drucker to take a valley full of Talibans while General Flagg, his commanding officer, is pressing him to achieve it in less than two days. General Flagg is giving him fewer than two days to complete the mission. For the covert missions, the player assumes the roles of the soldiers “Rabbit” and “Deuce” from AFO (Advanced Force Operations) Neptune and Wolfpack, respectively. The player takes on the character of Ranger Adams for the confrontation missions.

This game has all the fundamental elements required for any modern warfare shooter. There are stealth missions, driving missions (on quad bikes), tasks in which the player must identify aircraft artillery targets, zones requiring night vision, and other functions. Similarly, the game offers a multiplayer experience centered on classes in which the player’s avatar can level up and learn new talents as the user progresses through the game by earning experience points. Rifleman, Special Operations, and Sniper are the three possible classes, and the two available teams are the Coalition, which represents NATO forces, and the Opposing Forces, which means the Taliban.

Separate studios created both the single-player campaign and the game’s multiplayer components. Danger Close was the first studio to work on a single-player campaign, and DICE was the second studio.
