Meteos Wars is a puzzle game with falling blocks based on the Nintendo DS game Meteos. While the core gameplay is the same, using a gamepad instead of the touch-screen and stylus pair makes it different fun. It comprises a board on which colored meters fall into a planet’s atmosphere. They form columns that the user can manipulate there. To slide the meteos up or down, the player moves a red pointer with two buttons. When three or more are lined horizontally or vertically, they ignite and are boosted by rockets into space (the top of the screen). They also catch all incoming meteors and frequently link combos together there. Vertical match ignitions produce a more robust ignition. As a group sees more incoming meteos, it becomes heavier and is pulled down by gravity. The player can circumvent this by starting secondary fires in the group or from below. Meteos that can be lifted past the top of the screen fall into the opponent’s board. When a player’s board is filled, the game is ended.

An additional button can accelerate time, resulting in time bombs being delivered onto the opponent’s board and exploding. Meteors can potentially burn up and fall back to earth. A planet collision can occur when the gauge at the bottom of the screen is full. There are four sorts, each with a particular consequence (Armageddon, Gambit, Sentinel, and Tempest). They reduce attack power, transmit more meteos while receiving fewer, launch a meteor missile, and use lasers to clear away falling meteors as additional protection.

Single-player has three game modes: combat against the computer, mission mode, and attack mode. Different planets must be defeated in mission mode before reaching Meteo. Along the journey, new worlds and accessories can be unlocked. Offline and internet multiplayer against a human opponent is available.
