This version of Minecraft has been optimized for the Xbox 360 and PS3 console environments. Like the first game, it features a sandbox-style universe in which players can construct their worlds from blocks of various materials. Although there are some differences and missing features compared to the PC version, it is mostly identical. Players are free to explore, create, craft, and fight in a creative mode with no limitations or danger or in survival mode with enemies attacking you and your inventions.
This edition includes an instructional mode. The crafting system has been made simpler. The crafting grid does not require blocks to be placed correctly. Instead, it displays the partnerships needed to make a specific item and then creates them if the necessary blocks are available. In local split-screen mode, up to four players can join a game, which can be played as an 8-player multiplayer game. The difficulty level may only be altered before entering a world, not while inside it.
The Xbox 360 and PS3 versions are nearly identical in terms of gameplay. The most notable distinction is the availability of skin and texture packs such as DLC. Some of these are exclusive to a single platform.
