The long-running ice-hockey game series produced by Electronic Arts is now up to its 19th installment with NHL 10. It is the first one that was not launched on a personal computer. In this version, the boardwalk, the control mechanism has been tweaked a bit, and the crowd simulation has been made more realistic. Other enhancements include basic tweaks to the game’s physics, as well as improvements to animation.
A brand-new fighting engine is played from the first-person perspective, allowing players to grab their opponents by the jersey. It is possible to kick the puck with the feet or protect it with the body, and there is also the opportunity to rough up players who are less physically capable. It’s possible to cause turnovers and mistakes by intimidating the players with the puck. After the referee blows the whistle, certain activities can be performed or completed. This was not previously possible.
In the mode known as “Be a GM,” players take on the role of a general manager and attempt to advance their careers by drafting, signing, and trading players. The Stanley Cup can also be won in the Battle for the Cup Mode, which consists of two teams competing against one another in an elimination tournament that lasts 1, 3, 5, or 7 games.
