The protagonist of the role-playing game Of Orcs and Men is Arkail, an elite Orc soldier hailing from the Bloodjaws region. The player assumes control of Arkail. The legion is engaged in combat with the goblins, but they are also threatened by the humans, who are aligned with the elves and the dwarves. This presents a difficult situation for the legion. The conflict with the humans has been going on for ten years, and the Northern force is building a massive wall to separate themselves from the Southern territory. The player is tasked with taking control of an Orc and leading them on a mission to eliminate the human Emperor. The player takes on the role of Arkail, who quickly allies with Styx, the lead goblin, and the two of them become the game’s heroes for most of the adventure. This unique take on more conventional aspects of the fantasy genre is accomplished by having the player control and experience the story’s negative side.
It uses the same real-time system as Cyanide’s earlier Game of Thrones for the fighting, where abilities and actions are queued up by halting the game (not fully paused, but time slows down to a crawl) to enter the tactical menu, and they are then automatically carried out when the gameplay is resumed. This real-time system was also utilized in Cyanide’s earlier Game of Thrones. Various options are available, including attacking individual foes, stunning them, buffing them, or using general strikes. Because the game focuses on two characters, each of those characters’ unique skills will need to be utilized. Styx has access to stealth skills that enable him to kill many opponents invisibly, paving the way for Arkail to come in and finish off the rest of the enemies. Dogs can also identify him based on smell and line-of-sight, which is the basis for the stealth system for discovery. Arkail can pick up Styx and toss him onto a higher ledge than he can reach himself. Most upgrades focus on making the player’s weapons and attacks more effective. Arkail has a wrath meter that fills up whenever he takes damage. Once he has reached his capacity, he will go wild, dealing a significant amount of damage but becoming almost impossible to manage because he will ignore any attempts at resistance and may even target his allies. When it finally runs out, he will suffer from Backlash, rendering him helpless and exposed for a brief period.
Exploration, the fulfillment of smaller objectives, and interaction with other players and characters in hub areas make up a significant portion of the gameplay. Arkhail’s abilities are derived from both an attacking and defensive stance in combat and his unique skills. In addition to his specialized skills, Styx engages in hand-to-hand and ranged combat. You can utilize the experience you earn while playing the game to increase your main characteristics: strength, agility, stamina, and spirit. Within each of these main characteristics are a variety of sub-characteristics. The items and equipment that are obtained along the way are tradable.
