The players of Operation Flashpoint: Red River takes command of a fireteam from the United States Marine Corps during a fictitious combat set in Tajikistan in 2013. The fight took place in 2013. Mortar strikes on a US FOB in Afghanistan are carried out by a terrorist organization known as the ETIM. These attacks forced the United States to launch Operation Enduring Shield, which directed the Marine Corps to invade west Tajikistan and eradicate the insurgent danger there.
