Gabe and Tycho from the web comic Penny Arcade make their video gaming debut in this adventure RPG.
Set in 1922, in a pulp horror scenario; players build their protagonist, who becomes engulfed in a mystery and adventure after a giant robot ruins the main character’s house during a leaf-raking session. Determined to find out what occurred (and locate a new home to live in the meantime), the player comes upon the Startling Developments Detective agency, which Gabe and Tycho manage. Along the way, the crew will meet several characters from the webcomic, as well as combat zombies, homeless people, mimes, and Fruit Fuckers in an attempt to solve this strange series of events.
The gameplay is designed as a classic RPG, with turn-based combat and item management abilities during battle. Players can summon additional characters for combat assistance and level up new skills as the game unfolds.
The story parts are presented in a comic strip format. During a chat, players engage in a multiple-choice story tree to obtain support or knowledge or simply to harass and abuse characters in traditional Penny Arcade fashion.
The Xbox Live version comes with various achievement prizes based on gaming requirements.
