Puzzle Quest 2 is the third game in the Puzzle Quest series, and the “2” in the title indicates a return to the original game’s more fantasy-themed roots rather than the science-fiction epic of Galactrix.
Puzzle Quest 2’s plot is similar to the original title in that players control a character and navigate the game environment to stop an evil entity. Unlike the first game, which had a vast overworld, Puzzle Quest 2 “zooms” in on the action and lets the player meander around smaller locations. Most of the game occurs beneath a turbulent town amid tunnels and underground areas. Players select one of four character classes–Barbarian, Sorcerer, Assassin, or Templar–and whether their character should be male or female.
Gameplay
As with prior releases, the game is controlled by playing a Bejeweled-style puzzle game to proceed through the game’s numerous obstacles. The icons symbolize four types of magic, defense, or attacks during fight scenes. Players solve puzzle aspects by aligning up the icons to build Mana to utilize magic attacks, security, or physical attacks.
Puzzle components are used in mini-games to search rooms for hidden items, dig up loot in treasure chests, and unlock doors.
There is also a two-player head-to-head option in the game.
