R-Type Dimensions is a package that combines R-Type and R-Type II. Both shooters are direct ports of their arcade counterparts. A new feature is an improved 3D graphics mode with two alternative camera angles and widescreen capability. During the game, the player can toggle between 2D and 3D views.
The game has two modes of play: classic and endless. The traditional way is similar to ordinary R-Type in that it has a limited number of lives and respawns at a specific checkpoint inside the level. On the other hand, Unlimited grants the player an infinite number of lives and quick respawn. The player can compete in this mode to finish the game with as little extra life as possible. Finishing games in Unlimited Mode unlocks the stages for Classic Mode play.
R-Type Dimensions also get access to Xbox Live features such as leaderboards and online cooperative mode.
