Chris Redfield returns to the franchise as the protagonist in Resident Evil 5, a game set five years after Resident Evil 4. He is dispatched to Kijuju, Africa, where local agent Sheva Alomar joins him to catch Ricardo Irwing, attempting to sell bio-weapons on the black market. Soon after, they are besieged by hordes of townspeople afflicted with “making,” an upgraded variant of the “las plazas” parasite introduced in Resident Evil 4. As the story progresses, Chris learns that some older men are behind the whole thing.
This fifth installment of the series includes the notion of the “las plazas” parasite and the innovative gameplay from the previous game. Chris fights hordes of diseased adversaries who can throw objects and even shoot at you from an over-the-shoulder perspective. If they come too close, they can be resisted with various firearms, explosives, or knife and melee strikes. This time, Chris is accompanied by a companion, Sheva, who a second player can control, and both characters must keep an eye on each other to survive. The second player may enter and exit while playing locally through a split screen or online via another console.
Resident Evil 4 also has the Mercenary mode, which comprises closed areas in which the player must survive a specified amount of time while defeating opponents to create chains and earn points.
