The Bourne Conspiracy is a fast-paced third-person action game that combines shooting, some driving (in one level), and hand-to-hand combat. The game is played in the third person. The player takes control of Jason Bourne, an assassin trying to piece together his history after suffering injuries and losing his memories on a botched mission near Marseille and being made a target for elimination by his previous employers.

The ability to anticipate dangers and objectives and execute deadly takedown movements while utilizing the environment is provided by the “Bourne Instinct” feature, which is an essential component. An adrenaline meter fills in when you successfully shoot enemies, throw punches and kicks against your opponents, or break destructible objects with your car. As soon as one of the three segments of the meter is filled, you can issue a one-button takedown and get rid of one of your enemies. Alternatively, you can wait until you accumulate multiple segments to neutralize several opponents simultaneously. In the stage where you have to drive, you can utilize the Bourne Instinct to temporarily slow down the action for a few seconds, making it easier to avoid oncoming cars.

The following explains how the battle system works: pressing one button will cause a mild attack, pressing another button will launch a more powerful attack, and the third button will block. Altering the order to push the first two buttons gives you access to eight alternative combos. During a battle, the player may be alerted by a sound that their adversary is about to conduct a takedown. The player then has only a couple of seconds to click the button corresponding to a flashing indication on the screen to defend themselves from the takedown. These quick-time events can also be found in various interactive cutscenes. During these cutscenes, the player must press the appropriate buttons at the correct times to complete the objective successfully.

Some missions feature the action shown in the movie The Bourne Identity (such as the escape from the Zurich embassy or the Paris car chase in Marie’s Mini). In contrast, others are flashbacks depicting Bourne as a cold-blooded assassin working for Treadstone. For example, the mission “The Escape from the Zurich Embassy” features the action seen in the movie. Passports are strewn about in most of the game’s stages, and players must find and collect all of them to gain access to the game’s supplementary content. This content includes concept art, music tracks, and the ability to rewatch cutscenes and boss fights directly from the main menu.
