Players of Samurai Shodown II assume the character of one of fifteen different warriors as they traverse the land to defeat Rashojin Mizuki, a little girl who was cast into the ocean when she was a child and who has since grown up to become a servant of the evil deity Ambrosia. Players take on one of the roles of these warriors as they battle their way through the land.
This sequel to Samurai Shodown includes five additional playable characters: the warrior Genjuro Kibagami, who is Haohmaru’s antagonist; the cat-like Cham-Cham, who is Tam-Tam’s sister; the Prussian gun-wielding knight Neinhalt Sieger; the elderly monk Nicotine Caffeine; and Kuroko, who is both a hidden boss and an unlockable character.
The player can perform special moves once they have filled up their power meter, in addition to other gameplay-related enhancements that have been included. The ability to roll forward and backward, take tiny hops to avoid low attacks, and duck to avoid high assaults is now available to characters. There is also a maneuver known as a parry that, if performed appropriately, might leave the opponent open to attack for a brief while.
