Section 8: Prejudice’s solo campaign follows Alex Corde, a “Section 8” particular team member tasked with preventing an unknown force from utilizing mass destruction weapons on human colonies. This campaign has cutscenes and various mission objectives, but it is essentially an extensive tutorial for the multiplayer portion.

The Conquest multiplayer mode is at the heart of the game, in which players (up to 32 players per team) must conquer and defend control points. Every second point is scored for every base, and the team with the most points wins. Bonus points are also earned by completing regularly assigned side missions, such as escorting a unit. Kills do not count toward the point counter and simply add money to the player’s account. Hence it is critical to play as a team. This money can be used to purchase equipment such as mechs, motorcycles, mobile artillery, or tanks.

The assault mode is a little easier to understand: the goal is to conquer all bases in a short amount of time. Every contest is divided into two rounds, each team taking turns attacking and defending. Swarm requires up to four players to protect a base from opposing waves; this game also includes missions from the conquest mode. All three methods can be played by themselves or with bots.

The map introduction is unusual in this game: instead of spawning, players leap out of a plane – without a parachute. When collecting experience points, players, like in most multiplayer shooters, unlock new weapons and better stats, such as more significant damage or stronger armor. There is no set class system.
