Shoot Many Robots is a cooperative run-and-gun platform shooter for up to four players. The player takes control of the hillbilly P. Walter Tugnut, who is tasked with shutting down a factory that has begun making murderous robots on its own. He travels to diverse settings in his trailer to drive back the robots.
A primary and secondary weapon can be equipped at the start of each quest. The first has infinite ammo, whereas the second has limited ammo. Different sorts of weapons can be purchased directly from the trailer, but most must be unlocked by discovering boxes in the stages and saving up on gears, which serve as the game’s currency. The bags can also be spent on items that affect the visual look of the characters. Most weapons are machine guns and shotguns, although there is also a flamethrower and a sniper rifle. Some weapons require button-mashing to fire faster, while others require the player to pause shooting briefly to re-focus the aim.
While standing motionless, the characters can run, shoot, slide, and focus a shot. It is also possible to revive a fallen teammate in multiplayer. Aiming may be done in any direction, and the entire game takes place on a 2D plane with platforms but with visual elements on different tiers on different layers. Barrels, items, and buildings can all be blown up in various situations. The numerous robots that spawn have benefits such as increased speed and damage. Levels are divided into many paths for earning up to five performance stars per level. A certain number of stars are required to unlock new destinations. Drinking beer restores health, but only a limited number of bottles are offered first.
