Skullgirls is a 2D fighting game featuring a cast of eight warriors the player may control. The game features a random arcade mode and story modes, as well as local play, tournament play, ranking match quick play and lobby play, the latter two of which take place online multiplayer. In addition to these modes, the game also offers story modes.
When playing in arcade mode or multiplayer, the player can select a team consisting of two fighters with their health divided in half, a group consisting of three soldiers with their health divided into thirds, or a single powerful fighter with their health unaltered.
