Skylanders Giants is the sequel to Spyro’s Adventure and the second game in the Skylanders series. Kaos, who the Skylanders previously beat, finds himself in an Earth toy store. He discovers a gateway that transports him to a time when Arkeyans, an evil robot race, ruled the Skylands.
Like the last game, it employs figures that, via an accessory known as the ‘Portal,’ let you play as the character in the game. The old statistics are playable, but a new set of stronger characters is introduced. The eponymous Giants are one of the new characters. These are larger than Skylanders, up to twice as big, and have unique in-game powers, including picking up massive objects and throwing them to clear a passage. Switching the figure standing on the gateway can change the character at any time. Platform maps with puzzles, opponents, breakable objects that yield money, and other prizes make up the levels. Each level has specific objectives to be accomplished to receive a three-star rating. Once the first level is completed, the player obtains access to a hub from which the stories can be repeated to master them and meet all objectives. Some treasures will reward the player with equipment items that will change the appearance and abilities of the character. Those changes are encrypted in the figure and will be applied in subsequent games if the exact figure is used; the statistics can be reset from the game menu.
A new Battle mode with new areas and alter-ego Skylanders is introduced for multiplayer versus play.
