Sniper Elite V2 is a sequel and a remake of the original Sniper Elite. It takes Karl Fairnburne, the first game’s protagonist, and places him in the same period as the first title. However, the gameplay and levels are entirely new. Therefore, it is merely a remake that re-imagines the original game’s character and environment. Fairburne is an OSS (Office of Strategic Services) agent from the United States disguised as a German sharpshooter and introduced into the Battle of Berlin in 1945, during the closing days of World War II. He sought information about Germany’s nuclear weapons program in the original game. In this game, he must locate German V-2 rocket scientists.

This shooter is played in first person and prioritizes tactics and stealth over direct combat. Many missions need a location to be entered secretly and movement patterns to be observed before acting. You can crawl and throw rocks to distract guards, but there are also bombs. Fairburne’s vulnerability is indicated with a threat indicator. An alarm will sound if he is not attentive, and the enemy threat will become overwhelming due to the low ammo.

In many cases, it is also necessary to backtrack and then leave. Place trip mines, booby trap a body or drag corpses out of sight to aid in a safe escape. Snacking about, seeking shelter, and rapidly emerging is also feasible. A silenced pistol can be used to take out nearby adversaries. A sniper rifle is employed in most scenarios, particularly for long-distance kills. The camera then shifts to a scoped first-person view. The accuracy is impacted by the heart rate, the ability to control respiration, gravity, distance, and general ballistics. The ballistics’ realism can be reduced by lowering the difficulty level. Some missions feature confrontations against opposing snipers, and their reticules gleaming in the sunlight can be used to reveal their location.

Single-player, cooperative games, and competitive multiplayer are among the game modes available. Kill Tally, in which endless waves of enemies must be killed in a race against the clock, Bombing Run, in which an area must be searched for parts to repair a damaged vehicle before the location is bombed; Overwatch, in which a sniper collaborates with an operative to mark targets, and the entire primary campaign, which can also be played with a friend.

In comparison to the first game, this title incorporates elements of modern shooters, such as point rewards for actions and kills (similar to the Modern Warfare games). A slow-motion kill cam for long-distance hits with an anatomical cutaway X-ray view identical to the one used to show bone-crushing attacks in Mortal Kombat 2011. It depicts the location of the bullet’s entry into the body and the damage it causes to the organs. The player is encouraged to take risks, such as shooting an opponent in the eye. Other features include the ability to label combatants for their position, extra target information, and white figures showing where opposing forces were last spotted. The mission environments are not entirely open but point the player on the right path. Hidden bottles and gold bars can be acquired, besides the main objectives.
