The pixelated aliens have returned to commemorate their 30th anniversary!
Space Invaders Extreme, like other recent arcade classic updates, reinvents the gameplay of 1978 original, adding power-up blasters, boss aliens, and electronic music that plays in sync with the onscreen action.
The basic gameplay remains the same: players steer a ground-based cannon left or right, blasting an approaching fleet of invaders before they reach the ground. The primary goal is accumulating as many points as possible before running out of life.
Invader fleets that break patterns from left to proper descent, boss aliens that require multiple hits to kill, and power-ups that strengthen the cannon, letting the player wipe out numerous invaders at once while racking up combos, are all new features in Space Invaders Extreme.
Wi-Fi play is also available, allowing players to collaborate or compete against one another. The Nintendo DS version also includes an online ranking feature.
