Strider is a modern reimagining of Capcom’s arcade classic Strider, with some gameplay aspects taken from the NES original. The player controls Strider Hiryû, a ninja-like warrior sent to the technologically superior Kazakh City. Grandmaster Meio, a brutal dictator, and his legions of robots have taken over Kazakh. Many more Striders were dispatched before Hiryû, never to be seen again. It is now up to Hiryu to succeed where his predecessors failed and free Kazakh City from Meio and his minions.
Like the original, Strider is primarily an action/platform game in which Hiryû must hack and slash his way through swarms of opponents. Hiryû’s climbing abilities must be used to explore the 2.5D settings, uncovering bonuses and upgrades along the way. Hiryû unlocks new weapons and skills as he progresses through the game and defeats the numerous bosses, allowing him to explore new regions of Kazakh City. Unlike his predecessors, this Strider version is not linear. It follows a semi-open structure similar to the Metroid games, albeit a map and navigation system always show which direction the next objective is.
