April O’Neil, the Turtles’ reporter buddy, gets kidnapped by the villainous Shredder and his two cronies, Bebop and Rocksteady. Raphael, Michelangelo, Donatello, and Leonardo, the four ninja turtles, fight past waves of Foot Soldiers to save April. Before facing Shredder himself, they face classic opponents such as the mad scientist Baxter Stockman, Dimension X General Traag, and the evil alien brain Krang.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is an arcade game Konami created during the cartoon series’s peak. Depending on the version, up to two, three, or four players can participate. The game is similar to a simpler version of Double Dragon. While most regular Foot Soldier adversaries are readily eliminated, some use knives or ray guns to attack and are thus more deadly. Players face a boss (or, in some cases, two bosses working together, such as Bebop and Rocksteady) at the end of each level.
The NES version of the game renamed Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Arcade Game in the West, includes exclusive content such as two new levels (Snowy Central Park and The Dojo), new bosses (including Tora, Shogun, and Baxter Stockman as a fly), additional music tracks, and more Foot Soldier variations.
