The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion receives new content with the release of the Shivering Isles expansion pack.

A new story arc begins with a portal opening in Niben Bay, Cyrodiil. This portal leads to the shattered realm of Sheogorath, the Daedric Prince of insanity. There is an island in that dimension that symbolizes the insanity that Sheogorath himself possesses, and the island has two sides: mania and dementia. Each of the two sides is an exact clone of the other, with the sole distinction being that one side is characterized by sober melancholy. In contrast, the other is characterized by unadulterated joy (although you shouldn’t expect it to be any less dangerous). This distinction affects not just the appearance but also the demeanor of the non-playable characters and the enemies. Sheogorath is searching for a hero to save the island from whatever is happening to it, and you are the one he has chosen to be that hero.

You will discover many new dungeons, items, ingredients, and spells while exploring the Shivering Isles, all of which you can bring back with you to Cyrodiil. The adventurer has a lot of new tasks and questlines to choose from, and many of them depend on the different sides of the Shivering Isles. For instance, one of the quests demands you kill a non-playable character (NPC). However, it is up to you to decide whether you kill the NPC on the Evil side or the one on the Good side, his identical counterpart.

The previous expansion, Knights of the Nine, is exclusive to the actual retail copies of the game sold in stores for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 editions.
