Trials HD is a sequel to RedLynx’s earlier game, Trials 2. Rolling steel balls, mobile and breakable platforms, explosives, carts on trains, gymnastics-like even bars, and elevators are among the new hazards in this edition.

Players take control of a stunt bike on 35 linear 2-D tracks. In regular mode, the player must navigate their cyclist through increasingly challenging and improbable tracks, with the primary goal being to reach the other side (with any stunt jumps or tricks serving only to avoid obstacles). 12 additional “stunt” challenges require the player to execute stunts for points or ludicrous feats s, such as seeing how long they can ride atop a steel ball or how many bones they can break by flinging on themselves own a mountain of shipping containers. On both game modes, leaderboards monitor all tracks’ best times and points.

The primary gameplay of Trials HD is built on physics, which considers the rider’s weight, speed, and the fact that any torque or traction is generated solely by the bike’s rear wheel. Jamming the throttle will undoubtedly result in the cycle toppling over and crushing the rider. Similarly, failing to distribute the rider’s weight on a jump will cause him to land awkwardly and fall. As a result, the game is less about racing and more about control.

The player must find the right combinations, rider positions, and fancy movements to pass each course using analog throttle and brake (on the controller’s triggers). Checkpoints are strategically placed around the circuit, typically before significant trick parts. The game is built around trial and error, and after each fall, buttons instantly return the player to the last checkpoint or the start of the race, allowing players to jump right back into the action.

After their run, the player gets rated based on time and the number of errors (restarts at checkpoints). Unlocking gold medals, new tracks, and extra stunts requires flawless runs. Unlocking medals also opens new bikes with varying speeds and handling qualities, the appearance of which can be changed to a limited extent.

In addition, an edit mode enables players to make their tracks and share them with anyone on their friend list.
