The best parts of all the Mortal Kombat games have been crammed into a single Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 cartridge. There are currently 23 characters that may be controlled by the player, including Reptile, Cyrax, Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Jax, Katana, and Sonya, among others. In addition to the characters already available, two additional bosses can be unlocked.
There includes a diverse selection of new levels, some of which feature gameplay elements. A character can uppercut another, causing them to fall to the ground with such force that they break through to the floor below, or they can knock another character off a bridge, causing them to land in a pit filled with spikes.
Players can compete against the computer in a one-on-one match, a two-on-two game, or an eight-player tournament.
The Nintendo DS version of the game features a wireless one-on-one multiplayer option. It comes with the Puzzle Kombat minigame included in the Mortal Kombat: Deception game.
