Warriors Orochi 3 is the third game in the series and the follow-up to Warriors Orochi 2.
After defeating Orochi, the land had a period of tranquility. The apparition of a Hydra abruptly shatters that serenity. Warriors from various worlds come together to create the Hydra, but only three survive. Sima Zhao, Ma Chao, and Hanbei Takenaka set out to journey back in time with the help of the magical Kaguya to save their dead friends and build an army against the new menace.
Beginning with only four characters, the player sets out to collect soldiers by changing the outcomes of many fights. Characters from the Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors series and a few from Ninja Gaiden and Dead or Alive make up the cast.
Before each stage, the player selects three warriors. In battle, these heroes can swap positions to fight swarms of opposing soldiers and officers, gaining experience and gems until the victory requirements are reached. Weapons and equipment can also be obtained during combat. Between battles, the player is returned to the camp, where he can purchase and personalize weapons, bond characters, equip characters, and distribute growth points to enhance the character’s level. Discussions between selected warriors will unlock additional levels or an alternate “Redux” version of a previously cleared combat if certain circumstances are met.
