Watch_Dogs is an open-world game set in Chicago, Illinois. It begins with the main protagonist, Aiden Pearce, and his associate, Damien Brenks, hacking into the Merlaut Hotel. However, the mission does not go as planned, and someone orders a hit on Aiden. His car is shot at when he is driving with his niece and nephew in the back seat, culminating in the death of his young niece. The game occurs a year later as Aiden looks for those responsible for his tragedy.
The infrastructure of Chicago is controlled by a program called ctOS (Central Operating System) in Watch_Dogs; traffic lights, surveillance cameras, ATMs, bridges, cellphones, the L-Train, and so on. It also keeps information on every person who lives in the city and uses this information for crime prevention, among other things. In the game, players can use Aiden’s cell phone to hack the city, get data about Chicago inhabitants, order automobiles, and participate in other “digital trips” mini-games.
The game also has several side objectives, such as fixer contracts, convoys, human trafficking investigations, intrusions of privacy, and so on. Completing these missions will offer players skill points to spend on their hacking, shooting, or driving abilities.
