WRC 3 is the 2012 FIA World Rally Championship’s official rally game, containing licensed cars, tracks, and drivers. The game has three fundamental modes: WRC Experience, Road to Glory, and Multiplayer.

In WRC experience mode, the player can race a single stage, compete in a single rally (consisting of 6 unique locations and a super special in some nations), or compete in the championship. In championship mode, the user selects a car from one of three categories (WRC, Class 2, or Class 3), then a driving crew from a list of real-life teams to control. The player can also design their championship, including up to 13 rally events in different nations with varying climates and road kinds.

Road to Glory is the game’s career mode. The notion is that seven drivers worldwide are selected to compete in an ultimate competition to determine who will be the next rally rising star. One of these drivers is the player. They must beat the others in their own countries (divided into seven geographical divisions) before facing the real rally pilots in a series of super-special stages. Aside from actual rally events, there are contests to test the player’s abilities, such as drifting, gate contest (a mode introduced in DiRT 2), rally school, survival contest (your car falls apart while racing), top rally contest (be quick enough to outrun a helicopter or a glider), and so on.

Except for the last area, each geographical location in Road to Glory mode consists of two countries with unique rally events. * Iberian Peninsula: Portugal and Spain

The American region includes Mexico and Argentina; the Anglo-Saxon part comprises Great Britain (Wales) and Germany; the Scandinavian area includes Finland and Sweden; the French region includes Monte Carlo and France; the Mediterranean region includes Italy and Greece; and the Pacific region comprises New Zealand.
Road to Glory mode uses reputation points (shown as stars) to track the player’s progress. Reputation points can be earned in two ways: by performing well in rally events and contests or by entertaining the crowd (for example, by wreaking devastation on the track, drifting, jumping, exceeding the speed limit, and so on). These points are utilized to access additional events, vehicles, and upgrades. Various types of cars (and promotions) are available in Road to Glory mode:* World Rally Championship: Mini John Cooper Works WRC, Volkswagen Polo R WRC, Ford Fiesta RS WRC, Citroen DS3 WRC.

Class 2 includes the Proton Satria Neo S2000, the Koda Fabia S2000, the Peugeot 207 S2000, the Fiat Abarth Grande Punto S2000, and the Ford Fiesta S2000.
Class 3: Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX, Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X, Subaru Impreza WRX Sti; 2000s: Subaru Impreza WRC 07, Ford Focus WRC, Citroen C4 WRC; 1990s: Toyota Celica Turbo 4WD – ’92, Mitsubishi Lancer Evo III – ’96, Subaru Impreza WRC – ’97, Lancia Delta Integrale HF – ’91; Citroen C2 R2, Ford Fiesta R2, Suzuki Swift Sport (R2), Renault Twingo R2, Ford Fiesta ST are the rookies.
The vehicles can be updated, repainted, and customized. Before each race, fine-tuning is accessible, but the car can also be tuned automatically. When competing in a rally event, the automobile may be repaired between special stages (within a time limit of 60 minutes, according to the rules).

The game experience can be customized. Several game aspects can be changed, including driving style, braking, cornering assistance, car damage, opponent difficulty, amount of rewind option usage, etc.
