The age-old concept of popping bubbles is given a new spin in the puzzle game Pop. They come into view from a variety of angles, and players must aim the Wiimote in their direction and then click on them. When you pop many bubbles in a row, not only do you rack up bonus points, but you also add more time to the clock. However, the score and the time are held back until the chain is finished being completed; only after then will they be made available. To form a chain, you must first pop identical blocks of the same color rapidly, without missing any or pausing for too long. The fact that there are so many bubbles on the screen, each of which moves at a different speed, makes this game so challenging. It’s not that there aren’t enough bubbles on the screen.
Within the context of the single-player game, players have the opportunity to pop their way through waves of bubbles while also collecting power-ups (such as those that slow down the game’s pace), multipliers, and chains and competing for global high scores. People can “steal” points from their opponents in the multiplayer version of Pop, and they can use the controller to “pump up” the bubbles so that they explode more powerfully. Other power-ups make the player’s portion of the screen inaccessible by making it darker or by freezing the player’s cursor by striking it with lightning. It is also possible to play it with other people.
