Following the Donkey Konga games, Nintendo considered a novelty use for the D.K. Bongos device. You still have to match the rhythm by hitting the bongos on time in Jungle Beat, but the visual presentation is a platformer, similar to a regular Donkey Kong game. Donkey Kong is controlled by tapping the left or right bongos together or clapping, which allows for jumps, vine swinging, wall kicks, ground pounding, and other moves.
To rid the island of evil kongs, you must travel through 40 areas. You can travel using a variety of animals, each of which requires a different rhythm to control. Apart from the input device, it’s a standard platformer with power-ups, bananas to collect, a slew of enemies, and an end boss.
Two versions of the game are available: one with the D.K. Bongos and one without the device.
