The series’ name is changed to NASCAR 2005: Chase for the Cup, but the gameplay and modes remain the same as in previous NASCAR Thunder titles.
This year, players and the NEXTEL cup cars can race in the Featherlite Modified, Craftsman Truck, Nascar National (Busch), or production car series this year. Each vehicle has a distinct feel and provides a different on-track experience. The improved grudges and alliance system brings real-life driver rivalries and confrontations into the game. Computer drivers remember whether you drive naughty or nice and will return the favor. The new Intimidator feature allows you to intimidate an opponent by getting behind and putting pressure on him.
In the fight for the top mode, players can follow their driver’s career from the Modified series to the NASCAR ranks. Participating in autograph sessions and performing well in races increases fan support, which increases the driver’s income.
Up to four players can compete in an entire 43-car field via online support for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox.
