Captain Olimar must gather the thirty missing parts of his spaceship before his life support runs out in thirty days. After crashing into a strange, unexplored world, he succumbs to the planet’s hostile atmosphere. Fortunately, the Pikmin, a plant/insect life form native to the earth, is on hand to assist him. In this real-time strategy game, Olimar must gather and lead the Pikmin to collect the missing pieces of his ship while battling the planet’s strange and sometimes hostile flora and fauna.
The Pikmin are divided into three types, each with a unique ability. Red Pikmin is fireproof, while blue Pikmin can swim and yellow Pikmin can be thrown far. Aside from the story mode, a Challenge Mode is unlocked after discovering all of the Pikmin types in the story mode. In this mode, the goal is to grow as many Pikmin as possible in a single day.
