A Super Smash Bros. mod is called 19XXTE. The game’s first significant mod, whose creation began in May 2015, is this one. Because 19XXTE is based on 20XX Tournament Edition, it adds other cosmetic changes in addition to helping players learn the game and running tournaments rather than just changing the characters or stages. In tournaments, 19XXTE has been employed, most notably at GENESIS 3 and Super Smash Con 2016.
19XXTE is a ROM hack, which means that the code in the Smash 64 ROM has been changed to allow the game to function differently than it should. Specialized hardware for the Nintendo 64 may make it possible to run the mod on the original console even though it is designed for use on emulators.
