In this latest 2D installment of the long-running Blaster Master series, the heroic S.O.P.H.I.A. organization is back to save the planet. This new sequel brings the iconic N.E.S. game up to date by adding a whole new action/adventure component and re-imagining the game’s original objective, which was to save the frogs.
A biologist named Alex is thrust into the role of savior of the planet Earth in this chapter. He is tasked with determining the cause of a mystery virus that is changing the animals in the world and putting people into a coma-like sleep, including Alex’s wife and child. To access new sections, Alex will need to make his way to the core of the planet, where S.O.P.H.I.A.’s missing upgrades are located, and then defeat a variety of mutants and enemies along the way.
The gameplay is very similar to the game that came before it. Vehicle “Overworld” exploration stages are arranged as a 2D side-scroller that, as the player gets the proper upgrades, opens up the 8 various world locations (similar to such titles as the current Castlevania and Metroid games).
Alex can get out of the truck and proceed on foot so that he can explore the many caves and engage in boss battles from a 3/4 overhead perspective.
