Donkey Kong has been “kidnapped” by the nefarious K. Rool and the Kremlings, and Diddy Kong and his girlfriend, Dixie Kong, must save him.
The traditional foes and helpful companions are back, as are some new characters, like the knowledgeable Wrinkly Kong, who will teach you key gameplay lessons. Again, the emphasis is on banana collecting, with every hundred bananas providing one extra life. Aside from defeating K. Rool and saving Donkey Kong, there are more goals to perform. Collect enough K. Rool Kremkoins to unlock the paths to the Lost World; each level contains a secret Hero Coin to find.
The Game Boy Advance version adds a bonus game option with three minigames (Expresso’s Racing, Funky’s Flights, and Bag a Bug), as well as a time attack mode called Diddy’s Dash (finish courses as quickly as Diddy Kong). This game version also features a new boss (Kerosene) and two new artifacts (Golden Feathers, which boost Expresso’s stats in the Expresso’s Racing bonus game, and photographs, which fill out a scrapbook). 28 more Hero Coins were introduced due to the addition of the bonus games and the scrapbook.
